Become a Missionary

What is your identity? Where do you find freedom, peace, joy, passion and purpose? What is the deepest desire of your heart?

As CCO missionaries, our deepest desire is to proclaim Jesus, to invite people into relationship with their Saviour and to help Catholics discover the fullness of their baptismal identity. This is what brings us joy, peace, and conviction of purpose. As full-time lay missionaries on campuses across Canada and in our National Headquarters in Ottawa, ON, we live out our response to Jesus’ command: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:19).

Our ministry is guided by five essential tenets:

  1. We are “evangelists of the youth”.
  2. We proclaim Jesus Christ clearly and simply.
  3. We believe in the importance of reaching one person at a time through personal discipleship.
  4. We have a heart for the whole world, desiring to reach people everywhere with the message of the Gospel.
  5. We have a heart of great expectation, convicted that God in His faithfulness will do more than can be asked or imagined.

This is our call.

Is it yours too?

Our World Needs the Saviour

With more than six billion people on the planet, the need and opportunities to present the life-changing message of Jesus Christ have never been greater. On our university campuses the Gospel message is frequently challenged and undermined; students need to hear the Good News of Jesus and be given the opportunity to respond.

“The mission of Christ the Redeemer, which is entrusted to the Church, is still very far from completion. As the second Millennium after Christ’s coming draws to an end, an overall view of the human race shows that this mission is still only beginning and that we must commit ourselves wholeheartedly to its service." (Redemptoris Missio, #1, Pope John Paul II).

“The number of those who do not know Christ and do not belong to the Church is constantly on the increase. Indeed, since the end of the [Second Vatican] Council it has almost doubled. When we consider this immense portion of humanity which is loved by the Father and for whom he sent his Son, the urgency of the Church’s mission is obvious.” (Redemptoris Missio, #3, Pope John Paul II)

In light of the tremendous spiritual needs of individuals throughout the world, Jesus’ words carry much significance:

“The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; so ask the Master of the harvest, to send out labourers for his harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38).

To pray this sincerely, we must be willing to be an answer to this prayer.

What about You?

What is your heart’s response to the needs of the Church as described above? Does the mission and charism of CCO resonate in your heart? How do you sense God is leading you to live out the revelation of His glory?

CCO hires full-time missionaries on each of its campuses and in our National Headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario.
