CCO RESPONDS TO THE CHURCH'S CALL TO PREPARE FOR BISHOPS' SYNOD

In October of 2012, the Holy Father called for a Synod of Bishops to gather to reflect on the theme of “The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith”. When this theme was announced, we as members of Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) were very excited and looked forward to reading the Lineamenta (a preparatory document found at the Vatican website).

Upon reading the document, CCO felt that it might be appropriate to write a response expressing our experiences related to the new evangelization to share with others including those attending the forthcoming Synod. We approached Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, S.J., Archbishop of Ottawa and a member of our Board of Directors, for his advice. He affirmed our desire to respond and encouraged us to draft a response to the Lineamenta.

Over this past few months CCO leaders came together to prepare this response. It includes a one-page executive summary followed by a brief presentation of what we feel might be relevant. A copy can be found here.

CCO Receives Special invitation

CCO recently received an invitation from the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization to attend an important planning meeting. The Pontifical Council has invited Jeff Lockert to attend the meeting taking place in Rome on May 23rd. The purpose of this meeting is to prepare the Convention of the Missionaries of the New Evangelization in October 2012, which is an initiative of the Holy Father. It is really an incredible opportunity for CCO to connect with this important Vatican department. While in Rome, Jeff has also arranged a personal meeting with Archbishop Fisichella, the Councils’ President, for Tuesday May 24th, and a number of other meetings with other friends and collaborators in Rome including Fr. Dominic LeRouzès, private secretary to Cardinal Ouellet and Fr. Steven Lopes, private secretary to Cardinal Levada. Please pray for these meetings and the opportunity to share CCO’s charism with the Church. We are excited for the 2012 Synod of Bishops which has as the theme “New Evangelization”, and no doubt this meeting will enable key relationships to be made.
