Father McGivney was a visionary leader…
In 1882 Fr. McGivney saw an opportunity to help. He saw families suffering from lack of financial and moral support. That need became the burden and passion of his life. Fr. McGivney enlisted other men who felt the same burden and desire to make a difference by founding the Knights of Columbus. Our long and fruitful lineage, as Knights, began with one man who saw a problem and did something about it.
Why support CCO?
In 1988 a young Andre Regnier saw a need for evangelization on the university campuses of Canada. Andre saw large numbers of Catholics stop practicing their faith when they started attending university. Something had to be done.
What began with 1 full-time staff member and a handful of students had grown into a nation wide movement with over 60 full-time staff and hundreds of students involved on many campuses throughout Canada. But there is still so much work to do.
K of C and CCO, a powerful partnership!
Through the years many K of C councils have financially and prayerfully supported our work. Also, many students have been able to attend CCO conferences, retreats and overseas mission projects through the support of the Knights. Some of these students have gone on to become active members of the Order (95% of the men on staff with CCO are Knights!) . Others have entered seminary or religious life. A handful have become full-time missionaries with CCO. Most have become contagious Catholic leaders in their communities.
CCO is also proud to have the Knights of Columbus as the presenting sponsor for the 2008 Rise Up National Student Conference being held in Toronto, ON. Rise Up is a gathering of hundreds of Canadian student leaders for 4 days of formation, prayer, liturgy, workshops, etc. To learn more about Rise Up, click here.
CCO students are known for their strong leadership and these men would make great members of the Knights of Columbus!
